What is a Nuclear Reaction?
Nuclear reaction is a process of two nuclei colliding to produce a completely different product than initial reactants. Nuclear reactions produces great amount of energy. Such events are rare in nature however, our Sun is a good example of nuclear reaction. Constant nuclear reaction is undergoing on the surface of the Sun, giving off enormous amount of energy in heat and radiation.
Types of Nuclear Reactions
Transmutation reactions: this type of reaction involves an element changing into another element
Fission Reactions: Involves a bigger nucleus splitting into multiple smaller nuclei and release energy
Fusion Reactions: Two or more smaller nuclei combine to produce a heavier single nucleus
