What is important about teaching Organic Chemistry?
Important things to consider include:
Important things to consider include:
- Proper nomenclature: there are a lot of rules to learn, and the sooner you introduce these IUPAC rules to your students, the better!
- Get "hands-y": build models of organic compounds with your students so they can better visualize the molecules
- As always with chemistry, plan fun labs to do with your students so they get the most out of the unit
- This is a heavy unit as far as content goes, so give your students lots of opportunities to practice what they've learned (lots of practice problems!)
- Use STSE whenever possible: if students can see the real-world applications of what they are learning, they will be much more interested
